How is take-home pay worked out?
Income tax is charged at 20% from £12,570 to £50,270, 40% up to £125,140 and 45% above that. Employee National Insurance is 8% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above. Student loan repayments and pension come off on top.
Does salary sacrifice save tax?
Yes. Pension paid by salary sacrifice comes off before tax and National Insurance, so it costs you less than its face value.
